Nathan Lamb turned in a fine performance for the Diss Table Tennis youngsters in Division One of Diss and District Table Tennis League this week against Palgrave Tornadoes but it was not enough as the youngsters went down 6-4.

Lamb is growing in stature each time he plays and he gave the experienced Tornadoes something to think about. Richard Woods came close to beating Lamb but went down 12-10, 6-11, 1-11, 11-5, 6-11. Woods beat Lamb's team-mates as did Alan Worthington before the pair won the doubles against Lamb/Robin Breeze 11-7, 11-5, 11-9.

Palgrave Stars beat Botesdale Batters 6-4 which saw two of the division's leading players battle. Terry Rayner beat Nigel Bowen in a close match 11-7, 5-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-8. Rayner turned in a maximum and Bowen won his other two games. Peter Evans chipped in with Botesdales other points.

Thandeston beat Newton Flotman B 8-2 who had Kev Smith in good fine and was unbeaten. He was supported by Peter Buck and John Pestel with a brace each but both lost to John Williams. Pestel took Williams the distance before going down 3-11, 13-11, 10-12, 11-4, 8-11.

In Premier Division, Weybread Rejects beat Newton Flotman A 9-1 thanks to maximums from Mark Durham and James Skilleter. Greg Collett won two but was beaten by Kieran Brady in the first game of the evening 11-8, 7-11, 11-13, 4-11.

Withesdale Bees beat Roydon 7-3 with Steve Griffee in fine form as he won all games without dropping a leg. Barney Garrod scored a double for the Bees as did Alan Connelly for Roydon. One of Connelly's wins included a close battle with Garrod before winning 6-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-4, 11-4.

Shotguns 'B' brought in two reserves for their match with Palgrave Terriers and lost 4-6. George Cole unbeaten for the Terriers and supported by Tony Park with two. Dave Mortlock took two wins for the B team.

Another of the league championship finals was also completed last week as Nigel Bowen beat David Leeder in the First Division Singles 11-6, 7-11, 11-7, 11-3.

Division One: Botesdale Batters 4, Palgrave Stars 6; Diss TT 4, Palgrave Tornadoes 6; Newton Flotman B 2, Thrandeston 8.
