The Diss and District Table Tennis League held its annual league championships on Sunday at the Hartismere High School in Eye, where ten events were competed for.

However due to some events being reduced to 'best of three legs' there was not enough time to complete the Open Singles, Open Doubles, First Division Singles and First Division Doubles events.

These will be played soon on another evening.

The day began with the Handicap singles which was played on a straight knock-out basis. Nigel Bowen (+9) beat Francis Webb (+1) 24-25, 25-16 in the first semi-final by having the better average over the two games. The second semi-final saw John Monk (-4) beat Jason Evans (+4) 23-25, 25-15 again by the better average.

The final saw Monk beat Bowen 25-22, 25-22.

The Over 60's was played on a round-robin basis of four players with the penultimate game between Alan Worthington and Adrian Key decided the outcome as Worthington won 6-11, 11-6, 13-11, 6-11, 11-9.

The Over 50's was contested in two groups with Chris Jones and Francis Webb emerging as group winners which saw a very good final in which Jones eventually won 7-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7, 11-8.

The Over 40's was also played in two groups but very one sided as Monk and Steve Pendle met in the same group. Monk won 11-3, 11-3 which took him through to play Trevor Cottee and win 11-6, 11-2, 11-9

In the Over 18's and Under 40's event James Skilleter beat Jason Evans 11-5, 6-11, 11-6, 11-6 to revenge an earlier defeat in the open singles.

The Under 18's was played in a group of three players, James Briddon, James Carrell and Nathan Lamb, with Briddon the eventual winner, Lamb runner up. In the match between these two players Briddon fort back from 2 legs down to win 4-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-9.

Nigel Bowen will meet David Leeder in the first division singles final. Bowen beat Peter Evans in his semi-final 11-2, 11-8, 11-6, whilst Leeder overcame Alan Worthington 11-9, 11-8, 11-5 in his semi-final.

Bowen and Evans teamed up in the first division doubles and will play Peter Buck and Kevin Smith in the final. Bowen/Evans beat David Leeder and Billy Howe in their semi-final 11-7, 11-5, whilst Buck/Smith beat the youngsters James Briddon and Nathan Lamb 7-11, 11-4, 11-9.

In the Open Doubles final Chris Jones and Jason Evans will play John Monk and Trevor Cottee. Jones/Evans beat James Skilleter and Peter Maybury 18-16, 11-7 while Monk/Cottee beat Steve Pendle and Francis Webb 11-6, 11-5.

The final of the Open Singles sees Jason Evans play John Monk. Evans beat Skilleter in the quarter finals before overcoming Pendle in the semi-final 9-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-9. Monk beat Kieran Brady in his quarter final before despatching Chris Jones 11-2, 11-8, 11-2 in his semi-final.
