Success in pool for Otters

DISS Otters sent a large squad of 31 swimmers to compete in the Norfolk County Challenge Gala at Dereham and enjoyed a high level of success.

In total they won 62 medals across all age groups and achieved many more top-six placings.

For many of the younger swimmers this was their first competitive county competition. The young Otters rose to the occasion with many personal best times being set.

Leading the way for the Otters was Jordan King. He won a total of four gold medals in the 50m fly, 100m fly, 50m freestyle and 200m freestyle events.

Closely behind Jordan were Hannah Blades and Laura Hayden who each won three golds. Hannah won gold in the 200m backstroke, 200m fly and 100m backstroke with Laura winning gold in the 100m breaststroke, 100m fly and 200m freestyle events.

Other Otters gold medal winners included Ryan Hargrave (100m breaststroke and 200m fly), Katie Nash (200m fly), Elly Osborne (50m backstroke), Sophie King (200m breaststroke) and Ben Sweeting (200m backstroke).

As well as the 16 gold medals, the Otters won 25 silver medals and a further 21 bronze medals.

Silver medal winners were: Ben Sweeting (50m back), Ryan Hargrave (50m back, 200m back, 50m breast), Andrew Johnson (100m fly, 200m free, 200m IM, 200m fly), Hannah Blades (200m IM, 200m free), Sophie King (200m IM, 200m fly, 50m back, 50m fly, 100m back), William Dickinson (200m free), Carly Rose (200m fly), Elly Osborne (200m fly), Jordan King (100m back, 200m back, 200m IM), Pippa Rice (50m back, 200m breast, 100m IM) and Laura Hayden (200m breast).

Bronze medal winners were: Laura Hayden (50m free, 50m fly), Jessica Nash (200m back), Sophie King (200m back), Luc Van Rensburg (200m breast), Andrew Johnson (200m breast), Emily Lutkin (100m breast, 200m IM, 100m free, 50m back), Katie Nash (200m IM, 100m free), Francesca Wallace (50m breast, 200m breast), Ryan Hargrave (50m free, 200m IM), Elena Sarson (200m breast), Lauren Fountain (200m breast), Carly Rose (100m fly), Pippa Rice (50m fly) and Maya Harris (50m fly).

Other swimmers achieving top-six placings included Caitlin Davy, Bethany Palmer, Kirsty Barker, Emma Halmshaw and Ben Rose.
