Diss CC travelled to Norwich and Coltishall Wanderers in a potentially tricky Alliance Premier fixture, but came away with a resounding 57-run win, and exacted revenge for their humiliating Carter Cup defeat last year.

Simon Cooper lost the toss, which resulted in Diss having to bat first on a difficult wicket still damp from overnight rain. After a slow start the first wicket fell in the tenth over as Henry Rush (3) was unlucky to be bowled. Diss' entire innings was full of many promising partnerships, but none above 50; as the wicket proved very hard to get runs on.

David Tooke once again provided the backbone of the Diss innings with a cultured 40, and there were useful contributions from Will Dawson (22), Rob Tooke (23), and Chris Cooper (19). The Norwich and Coltishall bowling was generous to say the least, gifting Diss 25 wides, and although Diss' final total of 178 was below par, they felt confident that they could out bowl their counterparts.

Diss knew that to defend such a total they would have to take wickets at regular intervals, and they got off to the perfect start as Chris Germon had Ponder caught by Benji Spinks for zero in the

first over.

Karl Gooderham was unlucky not to have had J Elliot (5) caught in his first over, but it didn't cost Diss as Germon struck in successive overs, this time wicketkeeper Tom Weal taking a fine catch.

Chris Germon was on a roll, and he collected his third victim by trapping Stebbings (5) lbw. The very next over saw the demise of prolific South African, Biljon, with Spinks taking a fantastic catch to hand Gooderham his first wicket.

With Norwich 24-4 Diss were cock-a-hoop, but the wicket taking didn't stop there as Germon collected his forth scalp, seeing the back of Treglawn for four, with Chris Cooper taking a decent low catch.

With Germon becoming tired Simon Cooper turned to Henry Rush, who did not disappoint as he ripped the heart out of the Norwich and Coltishall lower order by removing Pilch (15), Beeden (6), Young (10) and Pattern (0) to leave the hosts dead and buried on 77 for nine; needing over 100 runs for victory. However, it wouldn't be a Diss victory without some drama as Williams (36) and Young (8 not out) put on almost 50 for the final wicket.

It was down to the skipper himself to take the tenth wicket, to the relief of the Diss players and travelling faithful, with Karl Gooderham taking an excellent reflex catch at square leg.

Tom Weal was faultless behind the stumps as well as taking three crucial catches, and Benji Spinks was once again an inspiration in the field.

Chris Germon collected the man-of-the-match award for removing four of the Norwich top order to finish with figures of 10 overs four for 32, but a special mention must also go to Henry Rush for his figures of nine overs four for 31.

Diss 178 all out (D Tooke 40, R Tooke 23) beat Norwich and Coltishall Wanderers 121 all out (H Rush 4 for 31, C Germon 4-32) by 57 runs.

On Sunday Diss were dumped out of the Carter Cup as they were thrashed by Swardeston, who came away winning by nine wickets.
