Diss manager Robert Taylor is hoping his team is fast out of the blocks as their Ridgeons League Division One season kicks off at relegated Newmarket on Saturday.

Then on Tuesday Diss host Gorleston before playing Walsham-le Willows in the FA Cup on the following Saturday.

Taylor said: “We need to get off to a good start. We have got new players and I have had a look at everybody. The last two games I have put out a fairly strong team. It looks ok so we will see how things go.

“It's going to be hard - Newmarket were relegated and will want to bounce back. It will be a tough start with Gorleston too and then the FA Cup game.

“Everyone is looking forward to it. If we win both games it will put us in a good mood for the FA Cup game. It's a new start for everybody.

“I'm not looking for miracles straight away but I will expect a good performance,” he stressed.

In his bid to get Diss, who finished a disappointing fourth last season, back into the Premier Division, Taylor has enlisted the services of six players from his old club, Dereham: Andy Moody, Steven Wright, James Wilson, Osiris Gomes, George Wilson and Brendan Foley.

But he has lost former Norwich City player Cedric Anselin, who had signed during the summer but now says he has lost his desire to play football.

Diss beat Blofield United 3-1 in their final pre-season friendly with Gomes, Robbie Lawrence and Adie Hayes netting.
