Taylor chases goal-getter for Diss

Diss Town boss Robert Taylor is confident the Tangerines will turn the corner in the Ridgeons Premier Division.

Taylor’s side head to Wivenhoe this weekend bidding to halt a run of five league games without a win – but the Tangerines’ chief insists there is plenty of cause for optimism.

“We’re playing very, very well at the minute but it is the same problem we have had all season,” said Taylor. “The boys have not been able to stick the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis. We’re looking to bring in a couple of new lads in that area of the pitch. We can stretch the budget a little bit, but its hard because every club at our level at this stage of the season is looking for players to maybe give them that push to kick on.

“We can speak to lads but if they can get more money elsewhere then it is difficult to compete. When you are creating 17 attempts on goal during a match and the opposition maybe create three or four and you don’t win the game it’s fairly obvious where the problem lies. We are putting some great balls into the box and getting ourselves in the right positions but we aren’t taking advantage.”

Striker Danny Partridge had been a profitable outlet in the first few months of the season but is now unavailable until the New Year.

“He is travelling until Christmas so we just have to get on with it,” said Taylor. “We’ve got maybe one recognised striker at the moment but if we keep creating chances then I’m not worried. The other week we conceded straight from a corner at the near post which tends to happen when things are not happening for you at the other end of the pitch.

“We almost need one of those lazy players in the penalty box who comes alive and knows just to anticipate a chance. We had a good training session in midweek and the boys are still nice and positive. Wivenhoe are down there as well but it won’t be easy because they beat Hadleigh on Wednesday. They’ve picked up in the last few games and I think they are another of the clubs who have managed to bring in players.”
