DISS Town CC recorded their best victory of the season by beating second-placed Vauxhall Mallards by seven wickets in a high-scoring game and collecting 24 points.

Diss look forward to their last home match against Swardeston on Saturday with a 1pm start.

Diss captain Dave Tooke won the toss and asked the hosts to bat.

Mallards' Arendse looked in good form and the score quickly raced to 38 off seven overs, but the Diss opening bowlers - Chris Germon and Karl Gooderham - started to tighten things up and Gooderham bowled Finney with the score on 40.

Sanderson soon followed bowled by Germon, but Harrison joined Arendse and they put together an excellent partnership of 112 with some powerful shots until Adrendse was well caught in the deep by Ben Spinks off the bowling of Henry Rush with the score on 157.

Rob Tooke bowled well with 1-52 off his 13 overs and took the wicket of Harrison for a hard-hitting 63.

The Cooper brothers, Simon and Chris took two and three wickets respectively and were aided by some good catching, including two more excellent catches from 15-year-old Ben Spinks at deep long-on.

Despite a good 58 from James Shipley, the Mallards innings finished on 254-9 off their allotted 50 overs and Diss were reasonably pleased to have kept the hosts to this score on a small outfield.

When Diss batted Rush and Dawson went cheaply to leave Diss 26-2, but with Diss opener Simon Cooper in fluent form he was joined by captain Dave Tooke and they took control of the opposition bowling and put Diss firmly on the road to victory.

Their stand was worth 140 before Cooper was unlucky to be given out lbw for a superb 81 in his most fluent knock of the season, with the score standing at 166-3 off only 32 overs.

Tooke was joined by Chris Cooper and the run rate continued at seven to eight runs an over. Tooke ended the game by hitting a six to finish on an excellent 112 not out, his first century of the season and with Cooper on a hard-hitting 36 not out.

Their partnership was worth an unbeaten 94 in only 12 overs to see Diss home to superb victory by seven wickets with over four overs to go.
