Three young swimmers from Diss Otters Swimming Club were selected to represent their county at the weekend and helped Norfolk to the runner-up place in the Three Counties Gala held at Peterborough.

In the 10/U age group, Ben Sweeting swam superbly to record a new personal best time and finished second in the individual 50m freestyle event. In addition, Ben was part of the successful Norfolk relay teams which recorded fine victories to win both the 4x50m freestyle and 4x50m medley relays (freestyle leg).

In the 14/U age group, Katie Nash, having only just recovered from illness, set a new PB time when she led off for the 4x50m freestyle relay team which finished in sixth place. Katie (butterfly leg) also helped the 4x50m medley team to a very respectful fourth place and finished sixth in the individual 100m fly.

In the 16/U age group, Liam Osborne finished third in the individual 100m freestyle and fourth in the individual 100m backstroke. Liam was also part of the 4x50m medley team (backstroke leg) that finished second and, in the final event of the day, he anchored the 4x50m freestyle team to a fine victory over their Suffolk counterparts.

Despite the best efforts of the Otters, Norfolk could not match the strength in depth of the Suffolk squad who ended the meet with a comfortable overall victory.

Final scores: Suffolk 445, Norfolk 292, Cambs 271.
