THE Diss and District Bowls Club ladies' A team completed a very successful season by winning the Premier Division of the Norfolk County League for the third time in four years.

This year the team were a totally convincing 17 points clear of the rest. This came on top of hard-fought campaigns in national team competitions.

In the Lingford Trophy for the under 60s they reached the quarter-final, in the Mason Trophy for the over 60s they went one better, reaching the semi-final.

The Yetton Trophy team also reached the semi-final, losing narrowly but a superb achievement for a relatively small club to be among the top four in the country.

Six of the Diss ladies were in the Norfolk team that contested the national final of the Atherley Trophy which was sadly lost by a single shot.

As well as county duties, Carole Baker was playing for England in the Home International Series in Belfast. She also played in the latter stages of the Champion of Champions competition at Hayling Island.

With her team-mates Mary Johnson and Pat Last they reached the semi-final of the two wood triples at the national finals at Nottingham.

All in all, a fantastic year for Diss and District Bowls Club.
