Under 16s battle back from slow start to beat tough rivals

PUBLISHED: 17:15 28 March 2017 | UPDATED: 17:15 28 March 2017

Diss Under 16s and their Lowestoft and Yarmouth counterparts met for a third time, having won one previous match each.

Diss got off to a slow start and L&Y moved 14 points clear. That stirred Diss into action and they moved the ball to their pacy backs who made good ground, allowing George Jones to score a try he converted.

With self-belief growing Diss moved the ball wide. Eventually, from a five-metre penalty, Miles Smith crashed over for Diss’ second try, converted by Jones to level the scores. Then Nat Strange scored in the corner to give Diss a half-time lead of 19-14.

In the second half L&Y scored again to level the scores. A close game continued in similar vein with Diss adding another try through Strange and after more pressure a clearing kick was gathered near halfway by Strange who dodged the L&Y team to score a fine individual try.

Despite conceding one more try, Diss held on for a narrow victory.
