Wilby hits out for Diss

NORFOLK U17 captain James Wilby hit a magnificent 77 to get Diss back to winning ways against bogey team Saxlingham on Saturday.

Diss visit Bradfield this week and will be full of confidence after this four-wicket win and will look to overturn the newly-promoted side.

On a batting paradise Saxlingham won the toss and elected to bat.

Lacey edged behind to keeper Green only to see the umpire give it not out, another chance went begging when Ollie Marriott put down a catch off Chris Germon's bowling.

The opening partnership fell just short of 50 when the introduction of Simon Cooper brought Diss a wicket. Stuart Mackie played a rash straight drive which went safely into the hands of Henry Rush.

Another handy partnership was formed between Lacey and Pearson until Chris Cooper spectacularly caught Lacey off his own bowling.

The Cooper brothers' tight bowling ensured Saxlingham never really looked like scoring a huge total. Simon snuck a ball through Adams' gate, bowling him for 14.

Pearson toiled away but run himself out for 64 after a great throw from Dawson. English was also run out for just four.

Rush caught the edge of Williams bat and wicketkeeper Ben Green took a tidy catch. Forsdick and Ely nudged Saxlingham up to 185-6.

Liam Brown was restored as opener and was joined by Simon Cooper and it was the latter who was soon out for four.

James Wilby and Liam Brown then set about punishing any loose bowling. Brown was caught for 40 and Wilby then upped the tempo, thundering the ball to all parts of the ground including a big six.

Dave Tooke played a big part in supporting Wilby whilst smashing five fours and a six himself, before being bowled for 30. Brother Robert was also bowled for just 15.

Will Dawson was harshly adjudged lbw for just two, leaving Saxlingham a small chance of claiming an unlikely victory.

Chris Cooper smashed two important fours, seeing Diss to a very satisfying win and 22 points.
