The start of the new fishing season for Diss Angling club saw a flurry of matches down at Eye ponds.

George Wilby kicked the season off with a win on the first Tuesday match on June 2, with a net of all skimmers from pit two on the old side.

Fishing the pole with caster and maggots over a bed of ground bait, Wilby caught steadily and finished with 12lb 6oz.

Second on the day, John Cole caught a mixed bag of chub, roach and perch to finish less than one pound short of Wilby with 11lb 10oz. Third place went to Chris Thorndyke with 8lb 12½oz.

Last Saturday's match, which was held on the new side, saw a great performance from a new angler to the club.

Fishing from a peg he had no knowledge of, Jake McDowell did the basics right and kept fish coming to the net, and on the way he got broke up three times from carp, but that didn't stop him coming out on top with a winning weight of 9lb 12oz.

Fresh from Tuesday's victory, George Wilby came second with 8lb. Third was Karl Hales with 4lb 14½oz.

Sunday's venture at the old side at Eye saw Bill Davies cruise to victory for his second win in the last three matches he has fished. Davies' mixed bag included skimmer, chub, tench, perch, and roach, many of which fell to pellet, and when weighed, the scales settled at 13lb 7oz.

Stewart McLean finished the match in second place with a bag of fish made up mainly of roach and skimmer which took maggot over micro pellets. McLean's weight was 11lb ½oz. Third was Chris Thorndyke with 7lb.
