DISS Otters junior swimming squad travelled to the new and hugely impressive Dereham Leisure Centre for the first round of this year's Norfolk Junior League.

With a number of regular swimmers unavailable, the Otters took the opportunity to blood a number of debutants against teams from Dereham, Great Yarmouth and Long Stratton.

Russell Hatton (12 years 100m IM and 50m backstroke) and Alice Waterfield (10 years 50m breaststroke and 25m butterfly) both won two individual events each.

There were further victories for Katie Nash (12 years 100m IM), Emily Lutkin (11 years 50m freestyle), Andrew Johnson (12 years 50m butterfly) and Robbie Arnold (11 years 50m backstroke).

Particularly pleasing for the Otters were the performance of their nine-year-old relay teams. Ryan Waters, Jack Arnold, Richard Hatton, Dominic Johnson, Georgia Edwards, Jessica Nash, Emily Boulton and Pippa Rice all swam superbly and look to be exciting prospects for the future.

Final scores: Great Yarmouth 136, Dereham Otters 124, Diss Otters 108, Long Stratton Sharks 40.
