Youth football notes

Diss started strongly with some good attacking play from Caleb Palmer leading to his first goal of the match which was swiftly followed by his second. Benjamin Cohodar was making his presence felt up front and soon scored the third goal with the fourth coming off a Taverham defender from a Benjamin Cohodar cross. Half-time score 4-0.

With Diss continuing to look for more goals the lone defender Liam Hamling and keeper Lewis Allen were playing well preventing the chances that did come Taverhams way from being converted to goals. The fifth goal of the match was a well struck shot from Thomas Lymbery. With some good mid-field play from Christopher Lymbery the ball found its way out to Max Bowen who put in a good cross for Benjamin to tap in his second goal. Caleb Palmer had a fine run beating two of the Taverham defence allowing him to pass the ball to Max who finished with a good strike getting his first goal of the season. Louis Land was putting in a fine display in mid-field along with William Frary to keep the pressure on Taverham, when the ball broke loose in the Taverham goal mouth, first to react was Benjamin taking his goals to 3 for a hat-trick. The final goal came from Max after a goalmouth scramble. Final Score 9-0.

Diss Hawks U10 had an unlucky start against Surlingham Tornadoes with shots going wide of the goal from Sam King and Freddie Bunn, then George Costello and Henry Ready both hitting the cross bar and at the end of the first half the Hawks found themselves 2-0 down. Surlingham put more pressure on the Hawks scoring three goals soon into the second half and then with some good team work George Costello managed to break through Surlinghams strong defence to score the Hawks first goal of the match, but Surlingham soon came back to score another. A good cross came from Nathan Channell to set George Costello up to score his second but was followed by Surlingham scoring just before the final whistle.

Final score Diss Hawks 2 Surlingham Tornadoes 7.

MOM Henry Ready

Diss Town U12 made a scintillating start against Rocklands. Jane Uebergang and Jamie Channell were prominent in midfield as fast, incisive passing and running created a series of near misses but Diss could not make the pressure tell. They conceded on the break and were two down by half-time. Diss responded well and were rewarded with a great goal from Lawrence Brown. At the other end, William Aitken was quick off his line to intercept Rocklands breaks. Just when it looked as if Diss were to be frustrated, MoM Sam Hunt equalised and then fired home the winner. This sealed a richly deserved comeback win for Diss. FT 3-2.

Diss Town u13 Diss head into next weeks top of the table clash, on the back of another big win.

Alex Coates put the home side ahead early and quick thinking by Tristyn Tunmer allowed Ben Shepherd to make it 2-0 soon after. Further goals from Alex Coates, Reece Lanchester & Cameron McGhie (2) gave Diss a healthy 6-2 lead. This was despite numerous early substitutions by Diss that allowed Rangers to keep in the game.

The second half saw Diss dominate. With captain Reece Lanchester & Adam Oakley holding in midfield it allowed Man of the match Ben Shepherd to dictate the game in the centre of the park. Shepherd was outstanding and took his match haul to 4 with an audacious 35 yard lob. Alex Coates and Cameron McGhie both completed hat tricks, and took their combine total to 21 goals in 4 matches. However biggest cheer of the day was reserved for Oli Lawton. Lawton sent the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot to complete the scoring.

Gorleston Rangers Hawkes 2- Harleston Stingers U9 2

The stingers travelled to Gorleston looking for their first win of the season, but for the second time they had victory snatched away at the last minute. Stingers started brightly and came close early on but were denied by the goal keeper. Stingers kept pressing and took the lead through a good run and shot from Corey Thurston and that's how it remained until half time. The second half started and within a minute the stingers were 2 up, a fine run and cross by Corey Thurston found Spencer Cawcutt in the box who finished well. But just minutes later Gorleston pulled a goal back. Both teams were pushing for the next goal with Harleston defending well with Zack Green impressive. But once again in the dying minutes Harleston conceded and drew the match.

Harleston U10 2 St Benets Wasps 4

Both teams started brightly with St Benets having the best of the early chances, including a free kick on the edge of the Harleston area which was heading for the top corner until Jack Davies saved well in the Harleston goal. Some good work up front saw Jamie Walker open the scoring following a mistake by the visiting keeper giving Jamie the chance to finish from close range. After Harleston's early lead, the visitors put together some good attacking moves and some good finishing saw St Benets leading 3-1 at half time. Harleston battled well second half and some good passing between new signing William Ramsay and William Rose gave Harleston the chances they deserved with Jamie Walker scoring his second after one of these chances fell to him, finishing well from the edge of the area. With minutes left and Harleston trailing 4-2 they had their best chance to close the gap when Jamie Walker created space on the left and came close to getting his hat trick, only to see the ball go wide of the far post. Every member of the Harleston squad played well, with Player of the week, Liam Robinson impressing most for his work rate and man to man marking of the away teams centre forward.

Harleston U15 were away to local rivals Long Stratton in what can only be described as a great advertisement for youth football. The teams were fairly evenly matched throughout the whole game with Harleston possibly having the better of the possession. Harleston keeper Jack Brown was rarely troubled between the sticks thanks to a good defensive display by the boys and it wasn't until midway through the second half that Stephen Barton slotted home what turned out to be the winner for the visitors. A well deserved win for Harleston who's passing was superb and who also showed that they could 'shut up shop' aswel. The whole team played well but this weeks MoM was Max Taylor. Final score Long Stratton 0 - Harleston 1.

Hempnall U14 travelled the short distance to Newton Flotman on Sunday to play in the 1st Round of the Norfolk and Suffolk League Cup. Hempnall attacked from the whistle and took the lead after seven minutes. A throw in on the left from Sam Fisher led to Callum Maloney outpacing his marker to fire in a cross that was thumped in by Harry Gibson. Callum then hit the bar and then raced onto a through ball from Rhys Vertigans to score. Another Fisher throw in led to Harry scoring his second. Sam Fisher almost added to the score with a 30 yard shot inches passed the post and then set up Connor Stearman to hook over the keeper. Connor then went through on goal only to have his shot saved by the keeper and his rebound kicked off the line. A Rhys Vertigans' shot from 35 yards whistled over the bar before he headed Hempnall's fifth from a Gibson corner. In the second half Callum Maloney soon added his second and Rhys completed the scoring with another header from Harry Gibson' corner. Joel Brookes made a smart save at the end to keep a clean sheet. Scole United U11 2 Old Catton 0

Both teams got off to slow start ,but then Scole took charge with some chances to score from Callum Nash and Jack Church.Scole then took the lead in the 20th minute with a goal from Jack Church.Just before the end of the first half Toby Gower could have clinched a second goal for Scole but just clipped the crossbar.

The second half saw Scoles defense strong with some defensive clearances from Connor Blake, Natty Strange, Joseph Grayston and Jack Lester.Some excellent play by midfielder Finley Boreham aswell.

With only 5 minutes left before the end Toby Gower makes it 2 for Scole from a superb corner ball in from Callum Nash

Man Of The Match Finley Boreham

Scole Girls under 14 started slowly and lacked energy where as Red Rose were really up for the game and were first to every ball and went 2-0 up in simialr circumstances when their forward ran onto a long ball. Scole won a free kick just inside their own half and Megan Vincent took it and it eluded the keeper and went in, but straight away i was it 3-1.

Not long after half time Red Rose made it 4-1, but in the 44th Ellie Drake went on a typical run beating 3 defenders and giving the keeper no chance, but Scole let Red Rose score again when a goal kick went past 3 players and it was 5-2.

Amber Elliott scored her first ever goal with a left foot shot from 20 yards straight over the keepers head, with 7 minutes left the girls threw everything at Red Rose and Rebecca Archibald scored twice to level the scores and could have won the game but for the ref blowing the final whistle just as she was through on goal.

Rebecca Archibald was player of the match.

Scole U15 6 Watton U 15 6

This was a game that had everything - goals, committment, drama and plenty of skill

Scole took an early advantage with two long range efforts from man of the match Oscar Marshall. Watton fought back but an own goal and a thunderbolt from Nathan Locke gave Scole a 4 - 2 half time advantage.

Once again Watton drew level but further goals from Aiden Shaen-Carter and Marshall and two from the excellent Watton striker left the scores level again . With the last kick of the game Scole had a penalty well saved.

Scole entertain Attleborough next Sunday 10.30 at Shelfanger Road.
