An 11-year-old Long Stratton girl is taking the title role in a Norfolk Youth Music Theatre's production of Annie at the Norwich Playhouse later this month.

A talented dancer, Anna, who goes to Long Stratton High School, has appeared previously in school productions and for ARTS (Anglian Regional Theatre school) in Newton Flotman.

The production is also notable for the age of the actor playing the plutocrat Daddy Warbucks - a role made famous in the film version by Albert Finney.

Fifteen-year-old Callum Bicknell from Diss even considered shaving his head for the part to help create the necessary visual illusion, as he attempts to age around 40 years each night.

'I go back to school on the Tuesday after the show closes, and I don't think that they would be too happy,' said Callum.

Callum, who recently reached the finals of a national singing competition, has plans to train as an opera singer after finishing his studies at Norwich School.

Tickets for the show, which runs from April 14-17, are 12 full price , 9 concessions 35 family ticket for all shows, which start 7.30pm each night, and include a 2.30 Matinee performance on Saturday, April 17.
