Gislingham Variety Club is putting the final touches to its production of the Cole Porter musical, Anything Goes, set on an ocean liner in the late-1920s.

Performances will run from next Wednesday to Saturday at Gislingham Village Hall.

Billy Crocker, a young city broker, has fallen in love with the girl of his dreams. But when he sees his boss off on a cruise to London, he sees her getting on the boat with her fiancé, Lord Evelyn Oakley, and her mother, Evangeline. She's determined to ensure the marriage

takes place to enable the family to

escape from poverty after the Wall Street crash.

All is surely lost, but, aided and abetted by “the world's most sensuous sermoniser”, Reno Sweeney, Public Enemy Number 13 Moonface Martin and Erma the sailors' best friend, Billy stows away on board in a mad attempt to halt the inevitable...

Along the way there are fantastic numbers, including I Get a Kick out of You, Friendship and It's De-Lovely.

Performances start at 7.30pm, and tickets, at £8.50, are available from Gerald Prior on 01379 788504.
