Arts centre's season ends with variety of events

Wymondham Arts Centre's first season in Becket's Chapel, the town's historic and atmospheric arts venue, will end with a variety of events running into October.

After the success of the open exhibition for Wymondham area artists in May, the centre is looking further afield with a South Norfolk Artists Open. This will provide an opportunity for artists from across the district to show their work, and pieces submitted include drawings, paintings in several media and some sculpture. They include John Behm's seven feet square Victorine: Calendar (oil and mixed media on canvas) and Rosie Evans' 12'x18'collograph Beach huts.

The show will run until Wednesday and the gallery will be open from 10am until 4pm each day. There is no charge for entry.

The last exhibition of the 2009 season will feature Viv Allen and Karen Whiterod, and will run from Friday, October 2 until Sunday, October 11. Viv shows images from a portable camera obscura and writings from a recent residency in Finland, and Karen's latest sculpture is inspired by wasp's nests, with a linked film and other sculpture.

On Saturday the arts centre will stage its first drama event, a one-man adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth performed by Simon Floyd.

This is described as 'an energetic performance of real power, weaving together the original text with richly evocative narrative.' The 70-minute performance starts at 8pm: tickets cost �6 and are available from the arts centre or from Barbara Randall on 01953 601939.

On Monday, Wymondham Arts Forum will hold its autumn meeting at 7.30pm in Becket's Chapel. The theme is A summer of art in Wymondham and there will be a review of six months experience of operating the arts centre, and a discussion entitled Where do we go from here? Everyone with views about the arts centre is encouraged to attend. A �2 entrance fee is payable by non-members.
