Harleston Choral Society will be performing two of the most beautiful works in the choral repertoire, Mozart's Requiem and the Maria Theresa Mass by Haydn at St John's Church, Harleston, on Saturday, May 10.
Three of the four soloists have delighted Harleston audiences in previous concerts. Soprano Sonia Stockel has worked as a soloist with many period ensembles, including the London Mozart Players and I Fagiolini. Michael Hart-Davis has performed tenor roles for Glyndebourne, Welsh National Opera and Opera North, and bass-baritone Callum Thorpe has recently sung with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and at the London Handel Festival. The choir also welcomes mezzo-soprano Rebecca Stockland, who combines a solo career with ensemble performances with groups including the BBC Singers.
The choir will be accompanied by a specially commissioned orchestra conducted by musical director Christopher Bracewell. This is the first of two performances of these works. The choir will be travelling to London on June 21 to join the Hammersmith & Fulham Choral Society and the Paris based choir La Lupinelle for a concert in St Paul's Church, Hammersmith as part of The Three Choirs Festival.
Tickets for the Harleston concert are £7.50 and may purchased on the door or in advance from choir members and from Harleston Pet Stores. Doors open at 6.45pm and the performance begins at 7.30pm.
