Diss Film Society at the Park Hotel will show Into Great Silence (PG) on Monday at 7.30pm.
German documentary maker Philip Groening waited for 13 years before the Carthusian monastery of the Grande Chartreuse in the French Alps agreed to his making a film about their lives. And Into Great Silence has been playing to packed audiences. Described as “transcendent” and “exquisitely beautiful”, it is a meditation on lives given over to prayer and solitude - an experience of the spiritual existence, rather than an exploratory documentary.
Admission £4; members £3; students £2. See www.dissfilmsociety.com for details of the new season and membership.
