Diss Film Society at the Park Hotel is showing The Namesake (12) on Monday, March 17 at 8pm.

It is an adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri's best-selling novel, The Namesake, about culture clashes between second generation immigrants and their parents has a universal resonance. Gogol (Kal Penn) struggles to fit in with his fellow New Yorkers, despite his family's unwillingness to let go of their traditional ways.

Like Monsoon Wedding, also directed by Mira Nair, this is a lyrical film, and a meticulously observed study of character.

Admission £4; members £3; students £2. See www.dissfilmsociety.com for details of the new season and membership.
