A sponsored hymn-sing is being held on Tuesday at Stradbroke parish church to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Trust.

Forty of the 50 verses have been written by the rector, the Rev David Streeter, covering such diverse topics as this year's Olympic Games, reusable shopping bags, church festivals, and the local pig farmers' campaign for a better deal from supermarket chains.

He said: “My response to the request from the Anthony Nolan Trust to stage a sponsored hymn-sing has developed into an exercise that I greatly enjoy, writing verses on contemporary themes and explaining why.”

He added: “The trust 'takes back lives from leukaemia' with their bone marrow register.”

The verses will be sung at 11am. There will be an exhibition covering most of the subjects featured, and light refreshments.
