THE Diss-based Mere Players are celebrating an accolade from a national drama association.Lisa Adamson who directed Mere Players musical production of Jekyll and Hyde at the Corn Hall in Diss, received the award for not only the best musical, but also the best overall production from all categories in the region at the NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) annual meeting at The Ramada Jarvis Hotel in Norwich last Saturday.

Lisa Adamson who directed Mere Players musical production of Jekyll and Hyde at the Corn Hall in Diss, received the award for not only the best musical, but also the best overall production from all categories in the region at the NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) annual meeting at The Ramada Jarvis Hotel in Norwich last Saturday.

Special mention was made of the mammoth task which Mere Players undertake, to transform the Corn Hall from what is basically a big empty box - described as a blank canvas - into a professional-looking theatre full of atmosphere with lighting, sound and special effects. Jekyll and Hyde was described as an outstanding production fully deserving of all the accolades and standing ovations it received at every single performance.
Mere Players are presenting a rather different evening's entertainment at Roydon Village Hall from Thursday, May 8 until Saturday May 10.
The group is performing an evening of one - act plays by the Nobel award winning playwrite Harold Pinter. The two plays are The Lover, currently being performed in the West End, which explores the relationship between a modern middle class couple caught up in an eternal triangle, but is it all as it seems? The second play is The Dumb Waiter. Two hitmen await their target in the basement of a restaurant. The lively and comic dialogue and the tension between the two characters is interrupted by the bizarre and disturbing appearance of the dumb waiter.
