As part of the recent upgrade to the play area, the giant spider sculpture for children is now lurking in the undergrowth for children to climb on.

It may be scary, but it is very friendly and loves having children sit and climb on it.

The Family and Spider Day taking place on Saturday, July 6, will celebrate its official unveiling with lots of suitably spidery activities.

The spider's name, chosen from suggestions submitted by the public then voted on, will be revealed at a ceremony led by the Mayor of Diss, Sonia Browne.

Children are being invited to dress as spiders and there will be prizes to all who do so.

Other activities during the event, between midday and 3pm, will include a creepy-crawly workshop with staff from Banham Zoo, spider stories, face painting and a chance to meet the artists.

The giant spider and play area upgrade has been funded through section 106 developer contributions from the Longmeadow development in Diss and Roydon.

Local artist Andy Harland, working at Hearts of Oak artists co-operative at Coney Weston near Garboldisham, was commissioned to create it.
