Pantomime spirit returns to Harleston

Dick Whittington, a pantomime with a hint of truth is this year’s production by Onward Players an integrated theatre group based in Harleston.
This will be Onward Players 29th panto in the town and the second that Rachel Allum-Sindall has produced and directed. Rachel takes on this legacy from her father and founder of Onward Players/Onward Enterprises, Peter Sindall MBE who passed away in December 2017.
Rachel who has been involved in all of the pantos since the very first one, The Pied Piper in 1991, felt that the show must go on so rallied supporters to put on a magnificent performance of Snow White, a show that not even the Beast from the East could stop, though it did delay it by a week.
Rachel has adapted another of her father’s pantomimes for this years offering, Dick Whittington. Loosely based on true events the story plots a young mans dream of making something of himself and even possibly finding true love. So Dick, with his dreams to spur him on sets off for London to seek his fortune.
The story sees Dick leaving ‘Ye Olde Harleston’ to start his journey of discovery. He has an amazing adventure and along the way meets a loyal friend, falls in love, meets royalty and visits far away places all before he meets his destiny.
Audiences will be introduced to characters including Alice, Donut and King BOGOF! And will be taken on an adventure sailing the high seas and visiting the far away island of Pongo Poundland before returning to London to become the famed Lord Mayor of London.
Performances take place at the Archbishop Sancroft High School, Wilderness Lane, Harleston, on Thursday, March 7 and Friday, March 8, at 7.30pm, and on Saturday, March 9 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
