Weekend of entertainment at DissFest 2017
PUBLISHED: 06:00 20 July 2017
A weekend of creativity and entertainment including international musicians, comedy, live theatre and children’s workshops is set to come to a Norfolk town.
DissFest is set to take place over the weekend of July 21 and 23.
Kayt Button, operations manager at Unit Twenty Three - the social enterprise organisation behind the event - said: “I think there is something for everyone.
“It’s meant to be great weather. There will be food and drink - if nothing else, I hope people will come down and see what’s going on.”
During the three-day event there are a range of events taking place suitable for the whole family - most of which are free to attend or have a small ticket fee.
The festival kicks off on the Friday night with an cabaret evening and an improvised theatre show.
During the daytime on Saturday and Sunday, there will be free to attend art demonstrations at designermaker21 and a host of things taking place in the park marquee, including a manga drawing masterclass, magic show and music workshops.
Across the weekend Park Radio will be in the bandstand, hosting live performances from performers and helping to keep the festival atmosphere going.
On Saturday night, Fowl Humour presents a night with local stand-up comedian Doug Segal.
The festival will close on Sunday afternoon with an theatre performance called Diabolo Date, which is suitable for the whole family.
This year’s DissFest has been 18 months in the making and forms part of a part of a longer programme of events and activities taking place in South Norfolk.
Over the past year or so, Unit Twenty Three has been working alongside schools, drama groups and youth cafes.
As a result, this year’s event will involve not just young people in Diss but those from the surrounding area too.
All funds raised from the festival will go towards helping Unit Twenty Three secure more Arts Council funding for Diss and the surrounding area, allowing the organisation to continue its support of creative enterprise in the area.
